Margaret Weis biography

Margaret Weis was born on the 16th March 1948 in Independence, Missouri and is a New York Times best-selling author of fantasy books. Missouri in the 1950s was not an ideal setting for a budding young fantasy author but the young Weis was not to be deterred and enthralled her kindergarten friends and then her classmates in school with her stories.

Like many fantasy authors Weis was influenced by JRR Tolkien and in particular the Lord of the Rings. In 1983 Weis met Tracy Hickman and so began a partnership that would change the face of role-playing games and game-related fiction forever. Weis and Hickman are best known for the Dragonlance game world. Dragonlance is set in the world of Krynn and numerous short stories and novels have been set in this magical place.

Margaret Weis is also the owner and chief officer of two publishing companies, which produce game products for the Dragonlance game world.

"Like Tracy says, we've probably written the last Dragonlance book three times now. When we wrote Dragons of a Summer Flame, everybody figured that was an ending point for Dragonlance. We knew we were going to take the world into a different age, which eventually became the Fifth Age, the Age of Mortals."
