The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian topped the Japanese box office following its release on the 21st of May. According to the distributors, Walt Disney Japan, the second movie in the Narnia series brought in $8.2 million in its first five days on release from 656,222 admissions and 778 screens. The CS Lewis novels on which Prince Caspian and its predecessor, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, are based have not reached the sales heights of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series but the Chronicles of Narnia books are broadly read in Japan, where the British fantasy book is held in high regard.
