On the 28th of June it was reported that Edinburgh was set to honour JK Rowling for her literary achievements that have brought honour to the city. It has now been announced that Rowling will be presented with the city’s most prestigious award, the Freedom of Edinburgh; the last to achieve this was Sir Sean Connery in 1991. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first book in the Harry Potter series, was penned in a cafe in Nicolson Street whilst Rowling was living in Edinburgh.
A special gala dinner in JK Rowling’s honour will be held with Scotland’s leading literary figures turning out to celebrate her achievements.
“The Harry Potter books were started and finished in Edinburgh and naturally the city attracts a lot of interest from fans around the world,” the Scotsman quoted city council’s spokesman, as saying.
