A complete set of signed, first edition Harry Potter books recently auctioned for £17,800 at Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers in Berkshire. The sale was conducted online and via telephone bidding. The Harry Potter comprises of seven books and each included in the auction had been signed by JK Rowling, albeit without a dedication. This sale follows the recent auction of the eight hundred page Harry Potter prequel that raised £25,000 for charity. Impressive as these sales are, the purchase of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by Amazon for £1.95million last December is undoubtedly the one that will be long remembered.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is one of seven handmade books by the British author. Amazon, bidding anonymously, bought it at a December auction at Sotheby’s where it fetched 40 times the expected price.
Another Harry Potter is up for sale next week with an uncorrected copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets expected to fetch up to £400. The two hundred and fifty two page proof is currently owned by a schoolteacher and will be auctioned by Cheffins Auctioneers of Cambridge.
