Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in Peter Jackson’s film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings has said that he would love to reprise his role as Gollum in the proposed movie adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
In an interview with KOS Media Serkis said “It would be strange if Gollum wasn’t there and it would be strange I would imagine if they didn’t ask me to do it. So I am secretly assuming I will be. They are both complete visionaries. I know Guillermo will bring a fresh set of eyes to the story, which is greatly loved. As a combo, Guillermo and Peter will be awesome.”
Gollum was a computer-generated character in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and was based on voice, facial features and body movements of Andy Serkis. Guillermo del Toro was confirmed as director of The Hobbit in April 2008. Peter Jackson will be the executive producer of the two films.
The Hobbit is scheduled to be released in 2011 with a possible sequel that would bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings to be released in 2012.
