Dragon Queen: An Ancient Mirrors Tale contains the first two Ancient Mirrors books, Into Abaddon’s Abyss and The Dragon Queen, merged into a single story, the prequel adventure to The Wrekening.

Without knowledge of the past, Yávië and the guardians stumble on a quest more filled with peril than any that have come before, a quest that will test the depths of their loyalties and the paths that they choose. Together they embark on a journey to discover the truth of Yávië’s birthright and a world they no longer remember.

With the discovery that she was born of the Dragon Queen, Yávië is given knowledge of the powerful artifacts that will reunite the shattered kingdoms into a single world.

However, with the rebirth of Ædracmoræ will come the opening of doorways that bring chaos and shadow to the new world – an evil that may be far worse than the original destruction of the realm of the Dragon Queen. It is within this darkness that the guardians and their young queen struggle to gain control of what they have unleashed upon the kingdom.

To walk into a dragons’ flyte was an overwhelming experience. Cavern walls towered over all. The sleeping ledges were vast fields of stone and at the far side of the chamber, Sybeth and Sygarnd lay relaxing on theirs. Eonis padded on dripping feet to stand in front of his parent and Matriarch, lowering his Huntress to the floor before her.
"The Prophecy of the Men is coming to pass. The strength of your flyte is needed. A mortal has overstepped his bounds, causing the death of the firstborn of Ilvaria and Ilgrond. He has also placed machines beneath the sea that are a threat to this flyte. They are shielded with sea dragon scales. Which of you allowed this?" Rydén asked.
Sybeth drew herself up to her full height, towering above Rydén. This was a serious accusation, for the law of the Ancients forbade the use of dragon scales by any save dragons or Guardians.
"Why do you think it was allowed? Why could the man not have stolen them from the scale pile?" Sybeth challenged.
Rydén shook her head. "I may have been captive in a crystal, but I was neither blind nor deaf. I heard a dragon’s voice freely give the scales, Sybeth, and I saw Maloch take them from a dragon’s claw."
"And did you recognise this dragon’s voice, Huntress?" prompted the great dragon.
"Nay, but I am certain that you did," Rydén replied sharply.
Sybeth moved from her ledge, allowing her tail to brush Rydén’s legs, causing her to stumble.
"What if I did, Guardian?" She put her face up close to Rydén’s.
Rydén steadied herself. "You will mete out a swift punishment to any involved, or see this flyte destroyed."
From within her cloak Rydén drew a crystal, round and clear as glass. Holding it out before her, balanced on three fingers, she asked, "Do you recall this, Sybeth?"
Sybeth pulled back her head and bellowed in terror. It was a creation crystal, Sybeth, but the Sea Dragon’s creation crystal. It will destroy your flyte without harming the others. You choose. The traitor… or the flyte."
With an anguished roar, Sybeth’s mate, Sygarnd, sprang from his ledge and closed his great jaws over Eonis’ neck, twisting and snapping, leaving Eonis broken and bleeding on the sand of the flyte’s floor.
Rydén knelt near Eonis’ head. "I have time for that apology now," she whispered into his ear as the last of his light ebbed. There would be no one who dared to gather this dragon’s heart shard.
"Call the flyte, Sybeth. I will explain my plan," Rydén commanded.
