Terry Pratchett fans’ delight at getting their magical tickets

Three lucky youngsters can’t wait to meet their favourite author Terry Pratchett. Alex Magee, 13, Rosie Newton, 15 and James Miles, 15, all won tickets through a competition in The News (www.portsmouth.co.uk) to meet the bestselling author when he comes to launch his new book Nation at Hayling Island Bookshop.

Terry Pratchett biography

The trio of bookworms collected their tickets before the big day this Saturday when Terry will spend two hours at the bookshop signing books and meeting fans. Only 200 tickets were made available and most went within 36 hours. But bookshop staff held three back for a competition to give young fans a chance to meet their writing idol.

Hayling Island Bookshop is also giving away a copy of Nation worth £16.99 to each of the three ticket winners which they’ll have signed by the author. The Terry Pratchett competition chimes with The News Spread the Word literacy campaign, a year-long drive to enthuse youngsters about reading.

By April 2009, we aim to have 3,000 more children as library members in Hampshire and Portsmouth, to increase the number of children taking part and completing Summer Reading Challenge by 10 per cent.

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect much of anything to change.
