You may be forgiven for believing that the final Harry Potter book marked the end of worthwhile fantasy books for young-adults. This is, thankfully, not the case and authors such as Joseph Delaney show that there is not only life after Potter but more importantly, a series of books that is as good as, if not better, than JK Rowling’s series.
The Spook’s Apprentice marked the beginning of the Wardstone Chronicles, a ghost/coming of age story that will both terrify and enthral adults both young and old. Joseph Delaney is a fine author, a retired teacher who understands what his target audience is looking for and clever enough to know that they need to be treated with respect.
