Inklings encourage submissions
Every week beginning in 1933 and continuing until 1950, a group of college friends met to discuss current events and share their latest writings. They named themselves The Inklings, and their ranks included the great minds of CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien.
Eastern’s literary magazine is named after this great group of writers. Inklings publishes poetry, short stories and visual art from students and faculty at Eastern. They encourage everyone to submit.
The magazine is published in the spring of each year and is free to the Eastern community. Leah Vooys, a third-year editor of the magazine, says that submissions are already being accepted. Vooys commented that a goal for the magazine this year is to raise awareness and increase the number of submissions to the magazine. Already, posters are appearing around campus with information on how to submit to Inklings.
The magazine is also looking for additions to their editorial staff. The editors read through the submitted works, discuss which ones to include, decide the format of the magazine, and finally have it printed in the spring. This year’s editors include Kimberly Lantzy and Erin Graham along with Vooys. Katrina Rutt, the new advisor for Inklings, helps to organize the magazine and also does behind-the-scenes work, according to Vooys.
Submissions are being accepted now through this April. Interested parties may submit poetry, short stories or visual art pieces for this year’s Inklings by e-mailing lvooys@eastern.edu. Copies of the 2007-2008 Inklings can be picked up in the English department in McInnis.
