No delay on The Hobbit states Del Toro

Guillermo del Toro has dismissed rumours that The Hobbit has been delayed until 2012.

The Hellboy director, who will helm the big screen adaptation of JRR Tolkien‘s fantasy novel, told fansite The One Ring that the blockbuster is still on track to begin filming in New Zealand in the upcoming months.

The Hobbit revolves around Bilbo Baggins’s quest to win treasure guarded by dragon Smaug. The story, a prequel to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, will be split across two movies. Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson will produce The Hobbit, with Sir Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis reprising their roles as Gandalf and Gollum respectively.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on 3 January 1892 at Bloemfontein, capital of the Orange Free State in South Africa. Few writers have undertaken the task of creating a new world with such thoroughness: Middle-earth – the world of The Lord of the Rings – has a geography, language, literature, history, mythology, flora and fauna that it is unique and unparalleled.
