Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award announced next week

The winner of the largest award for children’s and young people’s literature, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, will be announced on the 24th of March.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was instigated by the Swedish government in 2002 in honour of Astrid Lindgren. 2009 saw 153 candidates nominated from all over the world for the 540,000 EURO award for children’s literature which spotlights the importance of quality literature and reading in the development of children and young adults.

In 2005 the prestigious award was won by fantasy author Philip Pullman.

The winner will be announced live at 12.55 Central European Time at www.alma.se
