Penguin hope that Eoin Colfer can help them through challenging times
Penguin owner Pearson today said it hoped new titles by Jamie Oliver, Eoin Colfer and Nick Hornby would help its book publishing division through challenging times.
The group, which also owns the Financial Times Group, said it had made an encouraging start to the year, with revenues up 26% to £1bn.
Demand for new fiction and non-fiction was "generally good" at Penguin, with "very strong" growth also made in digital formats. But the group said illustrated reference and travel books had suffered.
Although Penguin was expected to produce a good "competitive" performance this year, with big named titles due for the second half, it faced tough market conditions.
