Penguin look to launch The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy sequel website

Eoin Colfer portrait image In a new strategy for the publisher, Penguin is looking for a digital agency to create a global destination site to promote the autumn publication of the new book.

The book, written by Eoin Colfer, will be published in October to mark the 30th Anniversary of the first publication of the late Douglas Adams’ cult literary series. It will be called ‘And Another Thing’ and is the sixth novel in the ever-more increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy.

The book is being published in the US, UK, Canada and Australia simultaneously, warranting Penguin’s development of a site targeting readers across the globe in the lead up to its release.

In an attempt to bring together fans of the original Hitchhiker books and fans of Eoin Colfer, whose Artemis Fowl titles have sold more than 18 million copies globally, the publisher is tasking an agency with developing a digital presence for the literary event.

Penguin’s sales, marketing, publicity and online teams are working on a campaign that leads readers from the original titles, which are being repackaged by Douglas Adam’s publisher Pan Macmillan with new introductions, onto the new book. Campaign activity will run in bookstores, online and in the media until Christmas.

Born on 14th May 1965 in Wexford, South-East Ireland Eoin Colfer attended Dublin University to gain his degree and qualify as a primary school teacher like his father before him. Returning to Wexford to begin his teaching career he left his home county once again in 1992, this time with his now wife Jackie, whom he married in 1991, to teach in East Africa, Asia and Europe (Italy) over a period of four years. His first book, Benny and Omar was inspired by his experiences in Tunisia, East Africa and was published in 1998. It has since gone on to be translated into several different European languages.

Special Feature: Understanding the author of Alice in Wonderland

Image: The Mystery of Lewis Carroll book cover

Lewis Carroll, the elusive author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, has been the subject of enduring fascination for the past hundred years. The destruction of many major documents about his personal life by his descendants has only magnified the mystery. Jenny Woolf's biography, published to coincide with the release of the new Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film, lays waste to the myths and suspicions that have obscured Carroll's reputation by placing him firmly in the context of his own time.
