Behind Every Illusion creates internet stir
Behind Every Illusion, a new fantasy book by Christina Harner, is her debut novel about a girl who discovers she may be part of a new species, created to save the earth from the destruction wrought upon it by mankind. The story of Tatiana takes place in 21st century America, where she, along with some of her friends and family, learns what it is like to change and become something new while trying to live a normal life.
Although she’s a young author, her novel has already begun causing excitement on the internet due to her enticing video trailer:
Behind Every Illusion is the first book in an exciting series about the extraordinary ways the earth has evolved in a desperate attempt to save itself from the destruction caused by humankind. This first novel focuses mainly on a soft-spoken 18-year-old named Tatiana, who begins changing in ways she never thought possible. Amidst tragedy, unimaginable transformations and an unexpected friendship, she has to learn to reveal the girl hidden behind her illusions and what it means to face the world in order to preserve not only the forest but her very existence.
So many books deal with the future – when humans have finally destroyed the earth and made way for robots or small colonies of better developed humans or something else equally elusive. But what fantasy book deals with today’s world and what might happen if the earth itself decided to fight back? The answer lies in this new young adult fantasy series where the author addresses what could happen if the earth decided to use a small group of young adults to help overcome the problem of consumerism and pollution on the earth and save the planet from inevitable destruction.
Struck with the nearly impossible task of reversing the modern trend of American – and worldwide – consumerism and the “what’s in it for me?” mindset, Harner says she felt quite overwhelmed when attempting to solve the problems we face. Even if the forests were able to give aid using people and evolutionary powers, how does one save the planet from its impending doom? Although this book does not fix every problem on earth, we are introduced to a young girl who begins the quest by discovering that not all environmental causes and groups are succeeding. And although this book focuses more on her personal struggles – she is self-conscious about her physical and mental changes, overwhelmed by loneliness, and fears discovery – the question still remains: can anyone truly save the earth?
Christina Harner spent years studying the complexities of culture for her B.A. A lover of all things fantasy and creating imaginary beings and stories in her head, she is thrilled to finally blend her passions for anthropology, nature and the unknown realm of fairies together in her debut book. She wrote the book while living in Louisville, Kentucky, with her husband and two children. You can learn more about the book at www.behindeveryillusion.com.

Special Feature: Understanding the author of Alice in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll, the elusive author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, has been the subject of enduring fascination for the past hundred years. The destruction of many major documents about his personal life by his descendants has only magnified the mystery. Jenny Woolf's biography, published to coincide with the release of the new Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film, lays waste to the myths and suspicions that have obscured Carroll's reputation by placing him firmly in the context of his own time.
