Meet Quackless and His Friends

Readers may remember a time when watching or reading fantasy stories was their favourite thing to do. A lot of children’s stories feature animals that are given human qualities, like talking and dancing. In Jane Lowrey-Christian’s story, a yellow rubber duck demonstrates human emotions. That enjoyable whimsical tale of talking and feeling animals comes to readers young and old in Lowrey-Christian’s picture book, Quackless Duck and His Secret Pals.

Quackless Duck is a rubber duck gifted with the ability to talk to his animal friends in the forest. He lives in a nice big tub owned by human beings, a place where he is pampered and cared for. When the family goes out, his secret pals would come to visit and play with him.

One day, while the humans are out, his two bear friends came to join him in the tub. As they jumped from the bathroom window to the tub, Quackless Duck was splashed out from the tub and landed on to the wet floor. The bears called their mom to help them fix their mess, and immediately fled when they heard human voices outside the house. As they left, Quackless Duck realized he is still outside the bathtub. He is now thinking about how to explain it to the humans — when he could only talk to animals. Can he still keep the visits of his animal pals a secret?

Written and illustrated by Jane Lowrey-Christian herself, this colourful children’s book enables families an enjoyable time spent as parents can discuss the lessons taught with their kids. Kids will also enjoy the world of fantasy with this charming tale. For more information on Quackless Duck and His Secret Pals, log on to www.Xlibris.com.

Jane Lowrey-Christian grew up on a farm in the thirties and forties, living a lot like Amish boys and girls do now. Her first book Budgie and Sissy’s Adventure, Growing up in North Missouri tells about her childhood in stories told from the viewpoint of the author as a young girl. Jane Lowrey-Christian and her husband, Harold, live in Princeton, Missouri. They have five children, nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She enjoys her home, her piano, sketching and drawing, and visiting her family. The need to put her memories down on paper came after losing her parents and brothers. Her love for her family inspired the children’s fantasy, The Quackless Duck Series. She always thought of writing, but the time never came – until now.

Special Feature: Understanding the author of Alice in Wonderland

Image: The Mystery of Lewis Carroll book cover

Lewis Carroll, the elusive author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, has been the subject of enduring fascination for the past hundred years. The destruction of many major documents about his personal life by his descendants has only magnified the mystery. Jenny Woolf's biography, published to coincide with the release of the new Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film, lays waste to the myths and suspicions that have obscured Carroll's reputation by placing him firmly in the context of his own time.
