Wood Elves are for wimps
July 28, 2009 will see the release of The Light of the Burning Shadows : Book Two of the Iron Elves (Pocket Books). The Iron Elves series is written in the grand tradition of such fantasy luminaries as Terry Brooks, JRR Tolkien, and Glen Cook, as well as military adventure author Bernard Cornwell.
Here is the book’s synopsis:
Konowa Swift Dragon was once commander of the Iron Elves, the legendary Elven regiment of the human army of the Calahrian Empire. Now recalled from exile and disgrace, he is second-in-command of the reconstituted regiment — a motley band of misfits who are elves in name alone. Konowa’s destiny is to stand against the looming threat of the Shadow Monarch, whose destructive ambitions have called down an alien power from the stars and riven the land with all manner of ancient evils. The same Shadow Monarch whose tainted mark he bears…His quest leads Konowa deep into the desert wastes: the burning lands to which the original Iron Elves were banished. There he and his current companions must face trials beyond their imagining, to learn how to defeat the Shadow Monarch for all time.
Chris Evans was born in Canada and now lives in New York City. As a military historian he has conducted battlefield tours of Europe, and was the historical consultant on a television documentary on the First World War. He’s earned degrees in English, Political Science, and a Masters in History. Chris is also an editor of history and current affairs/conflicts books including the highly successful Stackpole Military History Series. The Light of Burning Shadows: The Iron Elves Series, is his second novel.

The author has already received rave reviews for his work and Fantasy Book Review is looking forward to reviewing his work in the coming weeks.
"Once again, Chris Evans outflanks fantasy conventions with this black powder epic of ordinary soldiers, their flawed commanders, and the extraordinary evil they must overcome. Gritty, inventive, and compelling–a fresh mixture of military, history, and fantasy elements. This second volume of the Iron Elves saga is twice as good as the first book, and that’s saying something!" — C. C. Finlay, author of The Patriot Witch
"A thrilling epic from beginning to end, filled with wit, intrigue, and twists and turns reminiscent of Glen Cook’s The Black Company. A grand new entry in the field of fantasy masters!" — Richard A. Knaak, New York Times Bestselling Author
