Missouri author writes for those "looking for an escape"
Wizards, ghouls, and magic are not things that are often associated with Southwest Missouri, but a local author is delving into the land of fantasy with her new book. Katy Rogers is currently a student at Missouri State and the author of recently published Daughters of Merlin.
Since its release in 2005, the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer has sold over 42 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 37 different languages. Since the first Harry Potter book was sold in 1997, over 400 million copies of the books have been sold and translated into 67 different languages. With this increase in popularity of books in the “fantasy realm,” other authors are exploring this genre as well.
Katy Rogers is an author who recently published her first book entitled The Daughters of Merlin. The book is the first in a three part series about the untold story of the legendary wizard Merlin, and his two daughters, Serenade and Merek. The series will follow the two girls as they grow up in the house of Merlin and begin their journey into the world.
Rogers says she enjoyed writing fantasy literature since she was a teenager and explains why she thinks the fantasy books like Twilight and Harry Potter have become so wildly popular.
“I think people, when they read, anymore, are looking for an escape. He is my own brew, based loosely on the myths I read about him.”
Rogers hopes to have the series completed within two years. Her book is self-published through the assistance of Outskirts Press. You can find copies of The Daughters of Merlin at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.
