Libraries launch fantasy challenge
Libraries across Northamptonshire will launch their 11th Summer Reading Challenge this weekend.
Fantasy-themed Quest Seekers aims to encourage children to read more by offering a certificate for those who complete the challenge.
The organisers hope the scheme will help young children discover the joy of reading and "nurture a life-long love affair with reading and books".
The challenge is open to children aged between four and 12-years-old.
Last year 690,000 children took part across the country, including 47,000 new library members.
As part of this year’s challenge participants will meet Cadmus the Gatekeeper, who challenges them to bring back a golden book.
To do this they must pass through three stages: Firebird Rising, Mountain Mission and Dragon’s Lair.
Children can track their progress on a special fold-out poster.
Quest Seekers also includes a website where children can discuss the books they have read and play online games.
All 36 of Northamptonshire County Council’s libraries will take part in the scheme. More information can be found at www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
