As a Fantasy writer (four books published in Italy), I read tones of Fantasy books. In 2004, I was struggling to find out an author that would blow me away as it had happened when I was a teen-ager with Tolkien (who simply shut open the door of imagination), hungry for every Fantasy I could buy and... live. That passion changed my life, but growing always changes people even more. I was bored by Fantasy: too many bad books. Then appeared Steven Erikson, published in Italy by Armenia. It was a shock. I mean, a good one. But always a shock.
Steven Erikson has all my admiration. He's writing a serie that won't be forgotten in the decades to come. Everything is tremendously well written. So I started to read them in English. At first difficult (gosh! How many words I searched!), then growing more and more pleasant and exciting. I've began to read the seventh few days ago, in total, humbly and excited admiration.

I understand a lot of what Steven's answering. I guess, simply, that writing Fantasy changes writers in a peculiar way. It's because of using imagination every day, thoughtful and even astonished of what comes out from you. Worlds! Entire worlds. Populated, with individuals normally obsessed by independence. But even in this Steven is so satisfying, because of his really human and sharp way of answering.
I still remembered one of his past interviews, one in which he was particularly embittered in some answers (talking about the World we're all living on). A writer, but, most important, a human being. A very interesting and admirable human being.

Thank you all for this new interview.

A smile,
Andrea

Steven's work is so good that also not-english-mothertongues like me (and many others) can happily loose themself into it. So it is not only the "form" or the"Style" (I couldn't judge) that makes this saga great among the the greatest but much more and an evidence of Steven's great intelligence.
Thanks a lot to FBR for this interview!

Nice interview, I'm always fascinated to find out how authors work and also what they think of their earlier works as opposed to their newest ones.

As to making movies or TV out of this series, I'd be on a path of concentrate on one story line at a time, do that, then move on to the next. EG a whole film about the Bridgeburners, then one about Anomander, one on the Bonehunters, etc. Obviously there'd be crossovers but I reckon it could work. I also think only animation could do it justice.
