Aspiring authors can once again sit and write in the café where JK Rowling penned Harry Potter
Nicolson’s Café is famous around the world for being the spot where a young JK Rowling first began writing what would become the Harry Potter series. And after several years as a Chinese buffet the location is once again set to become a place that welcomes up-and-coming authors.
The café’s new owner, Moira McFarlane, plans to keep any references to Harry Potter subtle but is aware that people come from all over the planet sit in the very place where Rowling wrote about the boy-wizard. McFarlane went on to say that the café will also attempt to make the place cosy and welcoming to those who would like to sit all day and write books.
Before Ms McFarlane and husband Richard Alexander bought the café it was offered to JK Rowling for £1 million by its former owner. The offer was declined. The new premises will be known as the Spoon Café Bistro, and is due to open to the public today (November 2, 2009).
JK Rowling was born in the town of Yate, South Gloucestershire in 1965. She is the most successful literary author of all time and her world-famous Harry Potter series has sold in excess of 400,000,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into over sixty five different languages.
