JK Rowling once again accused of plagiarism
JK Rowling has again been accused of plagiarism, this time by Northern Irish muralist William Kelly, one of The Bogside Artists of Derry (three political muralists responsible for the famous series of murals known as The People’s Gallery).
In a blog just before Christmas 2009, William Kelly released the following statement:
"J.K. Rowling, with the help of others, plagiarized the character, themes, writing- style, vision, philosophy and contents of my book "Travels with Li Po".
Travels with Li Po" is a book written for children by Mr. Kelly in 1990. He claims he sent it to Amnesty, London, where "it was read by Rowling who basically ripped it off, hook, line and sinker", said he. "Were it not for the political situation here and the nature of the art work I have been engaged in for well over a decade with my two colleagues I would have done something about this long before now. This is not about trying to get our paws on Rowling’s stash. It’s about freedom of speech and making a stand against legalized tyranny and the suppression of our democratic rights by the few," he added.
Rowling, as with the Adrian Jacob’s case, has denied ever seeing Kelly’s work. This author’s claims to original creation have been questioned virtually from the start with the publication of her first book, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone. Mr. Kelly claims to know the reason why.
