Orbits ABC for the New Year
The good people over at Orbit publishing have decided to start the New Year with an ABC, and thankfully I haven’t missed out on too much. Daniel Abraham and R. Scott Bakker get the official treatment straight off the bat with extracts and praise.
A is for Abraham apparently, Daniel Abraham, and his Long Price Quartet which has, apparently, “garnered extraordinary praise.” Junot Diaz, winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Literature is quoted as saying;
“Daniel Abraham is one of the reasons the fantasy genre continues to haunt my dreams. Abraham is fiercely talented, disturbingly human, breathtakingly original and even on his bad days kicks all sorts of literary ass … If you are meeting him for the first time I envy you: you are in for a remarkable journey.”
The quartet will be published in two omnibus editions, Shadow and Betrayal & Seasons of War, and Orbit has put up an extract from the first one for you to read.
B is for Bakker, the author of “the groundbreaking” Prince of Nothing trilogy, and who is now returning to the world of Earwa with the first book in The Aspect-Emperor, The Judging Eye. Orbit love to push this guy, and maybe for good reason, as one of Fantasy Book Review’s favourite authors, Steven Erikson, loves this guy;
“Exquisitely intelligent and beautifully written … this is fantasy with muscle and brains, rife with intrigue and admirable depth of character, set in a world laden with history and detail. Take note, one and all, something remarkable has begun here …”
And, to go along with their praise for Bakker is an extract from the Judging Eye.
