Philip Pullman named as finalist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award

Philip Pullman is one of 59 finalists selected for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest international recognition given to an author of children’s books.

The award is presented every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to an author and illustrator whose complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children’s literature.

IBBY, an international network of people from all over the world committed to bringing books and children together, is composed of 73 national sections from all over the globe—and this year, 33 of them selected an author and an illustrator from their respective countries to be considered by the awards jury.

The committee from the United Kingdom selected Philip Pullman, author of "His Dark Materials" series.

The winners will be announced Monday, March, 19 2012 at the IBBY Press Conference at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
