Fantasy Masterworks

Fantasy Masterworks is a collection of some of the greatest, most original, and most influential fantasy ever written. These are the books which, along with Tolkien, Peak and others, shaped modern fantasy.

I have recently come across Fantasy Masterworks books when researching authors such as Patricia McKillip and Roger Zelazny. I think that this is an excellent collection that helps preserve and re-release the wonderful fantasy books that may otherwise have gone out of print.

It is also a great way to discover authors that you may never have heard of otherwise. Orion books are the publishers behind the Fantasy Masterworks and the complete list of the 50 books that make up the Fantasy Masterworks series can been seen by following this link http://www.orionbooks.co.uk/Masterworks-Fiction-list.aspx

If you are only interested in the Fantasy Masterworks that are currently in print and available then the following list, also on Orion’s website will help http://www.orionbooks.co.uk/browse-list-8/Fantasy-Masterworks

I have to admit that many of the books and authors are unknown to me so I look forward to reading them and seeing if they live up their billing.

Special Feature: Understanding the author of Alice in Wonderland

Image: The Mystery of Lewis Carroll book cover

Lewis Carroll, the elusive author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, has been the subject of enduring fascination for the past hundred years. The destruction of many major documents about his personal life by his descendants has only magnified the mystery. Jenny Woolf's biography, published to coincide with the release of the new Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film, lays waste to the myths and suspicions that have obscured Carroll's reputation by placing him firmly in the context of his own time.
