The Lord of the Rings was dramatised for the BBC by Brian Sibley and Michael Bakewell and was first broadcast in 1981. Featuring a cast made up from some of the finest actors of the time, most notably Ian Holm as Frodo, who went on to play Bilbo in Peter Jackson’s three films.
