Rebecca Yarros biography

Rebecca Yarros has emerged as a defining voice in the "romantasy" genre, achieving global stardom with her record-breaking Empyrean series. Born in 1981, Yarros spent her life within military circles as both a daughter and a spouse. Her professional writing career launched in 2014 with the military romance "Full Measures," written while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan.

While she authored over twenty contemporary novels, her 2023 release "Fourth Wing" transformed her into a household name. The novel, centred on dragon riders at a cutthroat war college, dominated bestseller lists and launched a series that includes "Iron Flame" and the 2025 blockbuster "Onyx Storm." The series is currently being adapted for television by Amazon MGM Studios.

Yarros is also recognised for her advocacy. As a person living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, she intentionally mirrored her own chronic illness in her protagonist, Violet Sorrengail, to increase representation in fiction. Off the page, she and her husband, Jason, reside in Colorado with their six children. In 2019, they co-founded One October, a nonprofit that supports children in the foster care system. Through her blend of high-stakes fantasy and grounded emotional authenticity, Yarros continues to reshape the landscape of modern commercial fiction.
