Charles Stross is a prolific British author known for his diverse contributions to hard science fiction, Lovecraftian horror, and space opera. Born in Leeds in 1964, Stross initially pursued a career in pharmacy before earning a postgraduate degree in computer science. His early professional life was shaped by roles as a software engineer and a tech journalist, experiences that frequently inform the technical density and speculative depth of his fiction.

Stross gained prominence in the early 2000s with his debut novel, Singularity Sky, and the critically acclaimed Accelerando. He is perhaps most famous for The Laundry Files, a long-running series that blends bureaucratic satire with cosmic horror.
