Sir Kazuo Ishiguro is a critically acclaimed British novelist and screenwriter, celebrated for his exploration of memory, time, and self-delusion. Born on November 8, 1954, in Nagasaki, Japan, he moved to the United Kingdom at age five when his father, an oceanographer, was invited to conduct research in Guildford, Surrey.
Ishiguro's literary path was unconventional; he initially aspired to be a musician and spent time as a songwriter before pursuing English and Philosophy at the University of Kent. He later earned a Master's degree in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia, where his thesis became his debut novel, A Pale View of Hills (1982).
His career is marked by a diverse yet meticulously controlled body of work. His most famous novel, The Remains of the Day (1989), won the Booker Prize and was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film. He has since ventured into various genres, including the dystopian Never Let Me Go (2005) and the fantasy epic The Buried Giant (2015). In 2017, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his "novels of great emotional force." He received a knighthood in 2018 for his services to literature and lives in London with his family.
