Rebecca Roanhorse biography

Rebecca Roanhorse is a Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author known for her contributions to speculative fiction and "Indigenous Futurism." Born in 1971, she is of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo and African American heritage. Before becoming a full-time writer, she earned a B.A. from Yale University, an M.A. in Theology from Union Theological Seminary, and a J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Her legal career focused on Federal Indian Law, including clerking for the Navajo Supreme Court.

Roanhorse rose to prominence with her 2017 short story, "Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience," which swept the major genre awards. Her notable bibliographical highlights include: The Sixth World series: Starting with "Trail of Lightning" (2018), this series features a monster hunter in a post-apocalyptic, sovereign Navajo Nation. Between Earth and Sky trilogy: Comprising "Black Sun," "Fevered Star," and "Mirrored Heavens" (2024), this Pre-Columbian inspired epic won the 2025 Hugo Award for Best Series.

Media Contributions: She has written for Marvel Comics, the "Star Wars" universe, and television series such as Disney's "Echo."
